| A Brief Background: |
Adamya Chetana is a
voluntary organization working in the field of social development. Registered in
1998, it has been set up in the memory of Smt.Girija Shastry who dedicated her
life to serving the poor and the underprivileged. Adamya Chetana has touched the
lives of thousands through its various
projects.
Projects at a
Glance
Annapoorna
is a project reaching hot nutritious hygienically prepared midday meals
to underprivileged children in partnership with the government. The project
reaches underprivileged children studying in government and government-aided
schools. Annapoorna reaches 98,000 children of around 350 schools in Bangalore,
78,000 children in around 250 schools in Hubli, 65,000 children in 525 schools
in and around Jodhpur (Rajasthan) and 12,000 children in 70 schools in
Gulbarga.
The
project improves enrolment, attendance and levels of learning in schools,
enhances the health status of the children, and lays the foundation for healthy
and productive lives.
Aata
Paatha is a unique informal
methodology that makes learning fun for children. Dance, music, drama,
story-telling, drawing and painting, games and multi-media are incorporated to
make the usually boring textbook come alive. It kindles curiousity, nurtures
creativity, and increases the levels of learning.
Aata Paatha Cassettes
have been
brought out by Adamya Chetana. These cassettes are in consonance with the
syllabus. Poems in the text-book have been set to tunes that children love to
hum. The format is in the form of a narration that makes lessons
fun!
Shikshaka Chetana is a resource centre for
teachers. This is another project in the multi-pronged approach to improving the
quality of education. Workshops, lectures, film shows, discussion groups, a
library are some of the resources that teachers are provided access to. This
centre is a forum for teachers to get together, learn, share and to bond
together as a group of professionals.
The Comprehensive School Nurturing Programme is a holistic
approach to improving the condition of government and government-aided schools.
It includes the midday meal, drinking water facility, renovation of buildings,
health check-ups, provision of uniforms and sweaters, with the active
participation of committed housewives who nurture these
schools.
The Vocational Training Programme trains women and girls
from underprivileged backgrounds in tailoring and computers. Regular programmes
are also conducted in personality development to help women on the road to
progress.
Udyanavandalli Sahitya Sinchana is an effort to reach out
with our heritage. We are attempting to further propagate the roots of our rich
tradition and culture through periodic lectures and
workshops.
Arogya Chetana is a health programme to cover 98000
school going children in Bangalore. The components include health check-ups for
all children, eye test with interventions like supply of spectacles or surgery
where required, insurance cover for accidents, a fund to provide financial
support where required, a mobile clinic, a network of doctors, hospitals,
clinics and voluntary organisations.
www.raktadan.org
is a
unique and innovative blood donation website bringing blood donors and the needy
together. The site has facilities for registering donors as well.
